When ‘double entry’ means double whammy
Prof. Leonor M. Briones--THE BUSINESS OF GOVERNANCE -
When I was a 13-year-old college freshman, the first thing I learned in Accounting 11 was the “double-entry system of accounting.” I was taught that this is an improvement over the “single-entry system” which is no more than a mere listing of income, expenditures, and other accounts.

A tale of two hospitals
Prof. Leonor M. Briones--Boiled Green Bananas- Jan 19, 2010
Yesterday, newspapers reported the inauguration of a P6.5 billion hospital which no less than the president described as a “quantum leap in medical care.” It boasts of “state-of-the-art medical equipment “ as well as “hotel-like facilities.” Mention was made of the P50,000 a day presidential suite and its luxurious amenities.

Bird talk
Prof. Leonor M. Briones--Boiled Green Bananas- Jan 17, 2010
‘Bird-watching? Gusto big bird!” This was the laughing response of Social Watch convenor Jeck Reyes Cantos, to the invitation of Kaakbay president Alain del Pascua for the Social Watch convenors to have its next planning meeting in the great Candaba swamp in Pampanga. “Puwede bang hawakan?” joked another naughty convenor. The rejoinder: “You can only watch, but don’t touch!”

An avatar for the Philippines?
Prof. Leonor M. Briones--The Business of Governance- Jan 11, 2010
The most beautiful films I have ever watched are the three Lord of the Rings movies: Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King , directed by Peter Jackson.
